Grape Seed Extract has been demonstrated to prevent oxidation of lipoproteins (LDL) by free radicals, making them less likely to stick to blood-vessel walls.
Oxidized LDL is one of several forms of low-density lipoprotein (LDL), or "bad" cholesterol. When the oxidized LDL enters into the wall of an artery, it promotes atherosclerosis by attracting other cells and chemicals to the site, causing arterial inflammation, and laying the foundation for cholesterol and other fats to build up within the artery.
Grape seed extract intake helps the arterial linings more resistant to mechanical and chemical damages and may help reduce excessive clotting. Grape seed extract also helps to make stronger capillaries for a good supply of oxygen and nutrients to the brain and to every corner of the whole body. OPC and other bioflavonoids in grape seed extract are found by scientists to regulate the functional proteins – the enzymes that influence blood-fluid balances and therefore may be helpful in lowering blood pressure. These aspects of knowledge are continued to be explored by scientists in several ways, including clinical trials.
